Memory Pairs: instructions and practice
Memory Pairs gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Look at what changes after your first action. Check the rule that explains your first action. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.
Something to practise
Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Make the next step deliberately.
Your goal
Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.
Work through the instructions
- Turn over any face-down card.
- Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
- Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
- Continue until every pair is visible.
Choosing and moving on screen
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Look at the feedback after the action.
A useful example
Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.
Pay attention to this rule
You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
