Understand the basics of Snakes and Ladders

Choose a round of Snakes and Ladders and settle into its rules. Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Check the rule that explains your first action. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Practice with a purpose

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

What counts as success

Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Work through the instructions

  1. Player 1 rolls first, starting before square 1.
  2. Move the number of squares shown by the die.
  3. Follow a snake or ladder when landing on its starting square.
  4. Alternate turns until one player reaches 100.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

From square 98, rolling 2 wins. Rolling 3 overshoots and leaves the token at 98. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Check this before moving on

A roll of six does not grant an extra turn in this version. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
