Making your first moves in Spider Solitaire

Start Spider Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Complete eight same-suit king-to-ace runs. Look at what changes after your first action. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Two decks, one/two/four suits; fill every column before a ten-card stock deal. Free solo play, no wagering.

Give this approach a try

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Understand the aim

Complete eight same-suit king-to-ace runs. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Work through the instructions

  1. Build down by rank. Only descending same-suit groups move together. Empty columns accept any movable group.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

Work through an example

A mixed-suit descending stack cannot move as one group. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
